Types of Closing Announcements

When normal business hours are affected, one of the following announcements will be given to the news media to broadcast:

1. University Open
   All classes in session. All students, faculty and staff report for work at their normal reporting time. No liberal leave authorized.
2. Delayed Opening
   All 12-month employees and teaching faculty, 9-month teaching faculty and students will report at the delayed opening time. Classes normally scheduled at that delayed time will begin at that hour -- i.e. if the delayed opening is at 10 a.m., all 10 a.m. classes will be in sessions while all classes prior to 10 a.m. are cancelled. Only personnel who report at 8 a.m. or another time prior to the delayed opening hour will report at the delayed time. All other personnel will report at their normal reporting time if the delayed opening does not fall within their normal reporting time.
3. University Closed
   All activities are cancelled. All classes cancelled. All offices are closed. Essential personnel only report for work. No liberal leave authorized.
4. Day Classes Cancelled
   9-month teaching faculty and students do not report for day classes (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.). 12-month employees and faculty report at their normal work hours. Liberal leave policy in effect with approval of supervisor except for essential personnel. All essential personnel must report for work.
5. Evening Classes Cancelled
   9-month teaching faculty and students do not report for evening classes (4 p.m. - 11 p.m.). 12-month employees and faculty report at their normal work hours. Liberal leave policy in effect with approval of supervisor except for essential personnel. All essential personnel must report for work.
6. Day and Evening Classes Cancelled
   9-month teaching faculty and students do not report for classes. 12-month employees and faculty report at their normal work hours. Liberal leave policy in effect with approval of supervisor except for essential personnel. All essential personnel must report for work.

Ferguson Center for the Arts
In the event of an emergency such as inclement weather, performances at the Ferguson Center for the Arts may be affected differently than the rest of the University. To find out about performance delays or cancellations, please call the Ticket Office at (757) 594-8752. University activities and classes at the Ferguson Center are subject to the closing guidelines listed above.
