Emergency Levels and Notification Protocols

Level 1: Planned Events
These are events that typically allow a period of time to prepare or plan for a response. Examples of these events are hurricanes, inclement weather, power or utility outage and related campus disruptions.
The minimum emergency notification system components that will be used are:
- Web page- cnualert.info
- E-mail messaging
- Other system components deemed appropriate by the Unified Command Team

Level 2: Localized Events
These are events that typically affect a specific building or a specific area on campus and do not affect the entire campus community. Although these events are more specific to an area or building, the required response is more immediate than the planned event. Examples of these events are hazardous materials spills, fires, bomb threats and suspicious packages.
The minimum emergency notification system components that will be used are:
- Web page - cnualert.info
- Text messaging
- E-mail messaging
- Other system components deemed appropriate by the Unified Command Team

Level 3: Immediate Catastrophic Events
These events require an immediate acknowledgement and the broadcast of emergency conditions in the interest of public safety. Examples of these events are hostile intruders, terrorist incidents, mass violence and nuclear power catastrophes.

- Siren / public address
- Web page - cnualert.info
- Text messaging
- E-mail messaging
- Other system components deemed appropriate by the Unified Command Team

CNU Police Alert
Upon incident, the following tools will be used:
- Web page - cnualert.info
- University Police web page - police.cnu.edu
- Text messaging
- E-mail messaging
- Hard-copy notices posted throughout campus
Please note that the campus-wide emergency siren system will only be sounded during an immediate, catastophic event.
